  • FB Rejecting Ads

Recently i've been having a harder and harder time with getting ads approved, and I wanted to let everyone know so you can hopefully avoid it happening or try not to panic haha.

First of all, its totally normal for Facebook to make mistakes when rejecting ads, i've had ads promoting music get flagged for adult content, alcohol, social issues, and mental health topics all without ever actually talking about ANY of those things in my ads. It happens, and when it does you have to go through manual review.

Usually this only takes a day or so, but currently they're running on limited staff, so approvals can take a week which can really mess up an ad campaign. Also as we get closer to the US election they've been even more aggressive than usual with their flagging process. This year Facebook isn't doing political ads, so anything that talks about social issues is getting rejected as a safety net. This could be having 'Love' in your caption, or singing words that talk about something personal to you.

We're kind of at Facebook's mercy when it comes to this stuff, but there is 1 solution you can do to reduce the risk of your campaigns getting messed up...

Create your campaign prior to the song launching with all your ads, and publish it with a start date. This should let Facebook process your ads as your ad waits to start, and then when your song comes up you can update your Hypeddit or ToneDen page to have the correct links without issue. If you do this a week in advance you can work around any potential issues before your song drops.

Its not ideal, but its all we have. Keep in mind you might be perfectly fine also, typically I don't have issues, but in the past week i've had 17 ads get rejected and one of them was for a campaign that ran fine for over a month. So they will reject ads that are already published and running.

This is so true. With the current political climate the US is in I believe FB bots are over analyzing ads to limit false information. Also from my understanding people can report your ads and basically troll you by saying their reporting it for something non applicable and because of the limited FB staff the bots will just reject it until you request a review and someone gets around to reviewing it.

I've had them refuse to boost Posts containing my songs because there was a reference to alcohol in them. A lot of the songs I write are "country" and, yeah, contain an alcohol reference or two. Very difficult to deal with them--you are lucky to ever deal with a "real person", mostly getting just "does not comply with our standards" automatic notices. But they make the rules, and we sign ours away when we join Facebook. Sigh...

Yeah it used to be somewhat easy to get a person on a live messenger chat, but nowadays they stopped doing that and review times are through the roof.

Hopefully come 2021 Facebook will lighten up a bit.

I've had an ad refused since it had a wine glass and smoking in it, recently I've also noticed they're much longer to deal with rap lyrics, and if I have 3 ads 1 rap, 1 chorus 1 instrumental they tend to ignore the rap
I also recently had YouTube refuse my ads because of the word "electro" too close to election !! crazy

I had a bubblegum song I did as a goof once--100% G-rated--that I called "The Naughtiest Girl In The School" that they flagged and never did explain what the problem was--just a "Facebook standards" issue. There WAS a brief humorous reference to teenage drinking and I DID promote the Post (not an ad--Post promotion) with a picture of a teenage girl smoking a cigarette, so yeah...I guess it got their attention. Learning little by little things to avoid.

Yeah I feel bad for artists that have lyrics revolving around any drugs or alcohol, basically means they're very limited when it comes to ads.

And I'm in the "country genre", so bars and alcohol are in about every song!

Hey Guys, annoyingly I tried one of your ad campaigns Andrew for my latest release on Friday and my account was restricted the next day. I had to take a photo of my ID for Facebook to review. Very strange. It’s been a day so far with no response but has definitely messed up my campaign as I can’t even boost any promo to people who like my page.
So I feel your pain I didn’t know it was even a possibility of it happening. But it sounds like it is common.
It was the first time I have ever had multiple ads running exactly like your 24,000 streams in two weeks YT video. I had my pixel working. However my Toneden says I had 486 click throughs my Facebook ads manager says 476 but my listeners on Spotify for that time is 46. I am totally confused how little it effected my Spotify Stats. I spent £30 on one day (before I got restricted) it really hasn’t gone to plan. I thought I was on to a winner.
Have I done something massively wrong or do other find this? Help please.

Good to know. I just got my personal ads account restricted. I'm not sure why because I don't believe I was running ads on it! Either way I sent a manual review. All my ads were just song releases with album artwork and music, but I'm hoping it was just an error on their part.

Same here just music and with artwork. Did you have to send them your photo ID?
